Poached Pears in Red Wine

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Pears peeled and halved
  • 1/2 bottle red wine
  • 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 strips of lemon or orange peel

Instructions
 

  • Peel the pears, slice in half and remove the core. Add pears to a medium saucepan, cover with sugar and water, turn heat to medium high. As sugar melts, add the wine (enough to cover or almost cover the pears), cinnamon stick, and lemon or orange peel. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
  • Once cooked, allow the pears to cool slightly before serving.
  • Remove pears to desired serving dish, drizzle with wine sauce.
