1. Packing Cubes (Again!)

I know I put this in our first post, but I cannot stress enough how space-saving and incredible packing cubes are. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a couple of these. This is the one I personally bought and I am completely obsessed with them.

2. Collapsible Water Bottle

My friend brought one of these on our trip and I completely envied her. I ended up buying water a lot because the bag I had didn’t fit my stainless steel bottle.

3. Tide Pen

I always had one of these stowed away in my purse and it came in handy more than I’d like to admit. The bird that pooped on me in Porto was no match for my tide pen.

4. Sunscreen

It goes without saying you will need sunscreen. Don’t skimp out on sunscreen; make sure to buy one that works and is good for your skin.

5. Power Bank

I bought a power bank last minute before going on vacation this year and I used it everyday. I completely relied on my phone for directions and to call ubers. My phone’s battery isn’t amazing, and having a power bank relieved my anxieties about my phone dying on me. You definitely won’t regret having a power bank when you’re on your long-haul flight too. This is the one I bought.

6. Laundry Detergent Sheets

If you are travelling for more than a week, I recommend getting a pack of laundry detergent sheets. The pack is so slim, it will fit sperfect in your carry on or suitcase and take up no space. You will be thanking yourself when you can pop one of these in the sink with your week-old undergarments. No one likes stinky clothes.

7. Anti-Chafe Stick

Now this is something I didn’t bring with me on vacation, and I completely regretted it. With all the walking, I got horrible chafing on just the second day of our trip. It was so bad that I couldn’t move the next day because of how blistered and painful my thighs were. If you chafe, do yourself a favor and get an anti-chafe stick and carry it with you.

8. Coin Purse

You can get a small cork coin purse in Portugal for a couple euros. Having a coin purse to separate your euros and cents is extremely helpful, especially if you plan on paying in cash often. It’s way better than rumaging through your purse for loose change.

9. Hand Sanitizer

Having a couple of these wipes or a travel-sized bottle of sanitizer on hand will never go unused. Before or after eating a meal, or if you’re in a public space touching railings, etc. I was always so grateful when my friend pulled out the hand sanitizer. They are perfect if you plan to go hiking, have a picnic or view attractions and there aren’t many bathrooms readily available.

If you are worried about pickpocketing or theft, hidden travel pouches are perfect. Since you can wear them under your clothes, they are discreet and can easily hold your phone, cards, cash, passports, etc.
