You’ve booked your trip to Portugal and now you’re unsure of what to pack. Portugal is a gorgeous destination that offers a blend of history, culture, breathtaking landscapes, and mouthwatering cuisine. We want to ensure that you have the most comfortable and stress-free holiday.
Here are 10 items you will need to pack for Portugal so you can get the most out of this beautiful country:
1. Carry-on:
We are well aware that some airlines (we’re looking at you TAP) have strict restrictions regarding the dimensions of carry-ons. As of June 18th, 2024, TAP’s carry-on dimensions have increased to 55x40x25cm or 22x16x10in with a max weight of 10kg or 22lbs (originally 55x40x20cm). Here are 3 carry-on options that meet TAP’s requirements.
2. Travel Adapter:
You do not want to be caught in Portugal, or any country, without a way to charge your devices. Here are a couple of options for compatible EU adapters.
Note: These are NOT voltage converters, which are required for shavers and hair dryers. DO NOT forget these when you pack for Portugal!
3. Packing Cubes:
This may not be a “travel essential”, but it will make packing A LOT easier. Compact packing cubes will save you space in your luggage and easily separate your dirty clothes from your clean clothes (Yay no stinky clean clothes!).
4. Tracker Tags:
Last year when I travelled to Portugal, I bought an Apple AirTag and it was extremely helpful. When I got off the plane in Canada and noticed my baggage hadn’t arrived, I was able to notify the airport that my luggage had never left Portugal. Here are some tracker tag options:
5. Luggage Scale:
If you are a frequent traveller, portable luggage scales are going to save you time and money. Make more conscious packing decisions and ensure space for souvenirs!
6. Backpack:
Backpacks are great if you need a personal item with more space for airplanes or if you plan on doing day or hike trips that may require snacks, a change of clothes or to hold your photography gear.
7. Comfortable Shoes:
When you pack for Portugal, make sure you have comfortable shoes! Portugal is known for its uneven cobblestone streets and hills. As you plan on spending your day exploring Portugal’s beautiful sites, ensure you have comfortable and stable shoes. Make sure to break in your shoes before your travel to avoid blisters! And maybe consider packing some blister bandaids if you plan on doing hikes.
8. Travel Document Organizer:
Organize all of your documents and passports in one place. A great way to keep track of your passport, cards and boarding passes.
9. Toiletry Bag:
Keep your personal items organized, easily accessible, and contained. If you travel with makeup, some of these options are great to keep your brushes separate to avoid getting your other items dirty.
10. Neck Pillow:
If you’re taking a long-haul, overnight flight to Portugal, do not miss out on a neck pillow. Here are some different options depending on what you are looking for.
Remember that packing light and smart will leave you with more room to bring back souvenirs and cherished memories! Whether you’re exploring the historic streets of Lisbon, enjoying the stunning beaches of the Algarve, or savouring the flavours of Portuguese cuisine, these essentials will ensure your trip to Portugal is a truly unforgettable experience.
